Drugstore Matric Dance Makeup Tutorial
This was an ultra smokey eye look I did for a Matric Dance I went to a little while ago all with drugstore products. I know there are a few matric dances coming up soon so I thought a tutorial on this would be really helpful.
Finished makeup look. |
1) The first step is to wash your face and moisturise. If you have oilier skin it's a good idea to get an oil control face wash and moisturizer - I have combination skin but my t-zone is very oily so I use Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser and Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer with SPF 30.
2) I always start with eyes so your first step is to prime your eyes, I usually just use regular concealer to prime but this time I used Essence Eye Base, but I haven't seen it in a while so I'm not 100% sure if it's still around but if it is, great because it really makes eyeshadow last. So apply this to the lid and brow bone.
3) This is very weird but get two pieces of sticky tape and place each one right against your waterline angled out towards the top of your ears.
3) Next take a brown eyeshadow and use a fluffy eyeshadow brush to apply it to the crease of your eye and blend it upwards towards your brow bone and out against the sticky tape. I used the Essence All about Nude eyeshadow palette.
4) You then take a black eye pencil and apply it to your eye lid thickly just above your lashline and use your finger to blend it upwards into the eyeshadow you applied before and gently out against the sticky tape. You need a lot closest to the lashline so it stays dark and contrasts against your eyes. Apply the eye pencil to your bottom water line too. Remove sticky tape.
5) I used fake eyelashes but you definitely do not have to use them if you're not keen on them. I used EYE Waterproof Eyelash adhesive in "Dark-tone" and a pair of Jiani Charm Girl's Fake lashes which cost R10 so really you can get any fake lashes, they do the same job.
6) Next you should prime your face with a skin base primer. A few that I recommend are the NYX HD Primer or the Maybelline Master Prime - Smooth and Blur.
7) Next dot your foundation across your face and then using a regular makeup sponge or beauty blender, use dabbing motions to blend it into your skin, I used Essence Stay All Day 16h Long-lasting Make-up in "10 soft beige."
8) Then dot your concealer on your under eye circles to form a triangle shape starting from the corner of your eye, down your cheek next to your nose and connect it up to the other corner of your eye. Also apply it to the bridge of your nose, on your forehead, on your chin and on any visible spots or imperfections. I used Essence Camouflage Cream Concealer. With a light dabbing motion blend it into your foundation, do not wipe it across your face as this can waste product so you'll have to use more and you don't want to move the product around to much. Make sure to keep slightly away from your eyeshadow wing that you created.
9) You should now use a loose setting powder and "bake" your concealer by applying it thickly with a sponge to where you've applied concealer. Leave it on for 5 minutes and then gently brush off the excess with a powder brush. I used Yardley Absolute Translucent Loose Powder.
10) Now you should use a matte bronzer to contour or if you have a contour palette all the better. Use a fluffy contour brush or powder brush to blend it under your cheekbones, going darker from your hairline angled down towards the corner of your mouth and brush a little down the side of your jaw line. I used Wet n Wild Colour Icon Bronzer with SPF 15.
11) Now apply a shimmery blush just above your contour to accentuate your cheekbones and bring a bit of colour. I used Essence Mosaic Blush.
12) Use either a liquid highlighting illuminator or powder on the highest point of your cheeks. Some good ones are Revlon Photoready Skinlight Highlighter or NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator.
13) Eyebrows! Use an eyebrow pencil to shape your brows. I used Essence Brow Designer in 02 Brown. I then used a brown eyeshadow to fill in my brows from the outside in and going lighter and as I got closer to the bridge of my nose I stopped to create a gradated look. Next use a concealer lighter then your skin tone under your eyebrows and a shade closer to your natural skin tone above to shape them.
14) For lips I used a nude NYX lip liner and a nude NYX Butter Lipstick.
I hope the tutorial above helped and was easy to follow. Please let me know in the comments. ♡
