Essence is definitely one of the most affordable yet good quality makeup brands here in South Africa. This brand originates in Germany but can be found not only in SA but also in other parts of the world too. So this post does not only limit itself to South Africa.
I will obviously only recommend those products that I have tried and believe to be worthy of purchasing and will give my own honest feed back on these products.
• Essence XXXL Shine Lipglosses - R39.95
|
XXXL Shine Lipgloss in "08 Glamour To Go" |
These Lipglosses have a mix of shimmery and glossy shades in this collection. The shimmery shades have a more sheer glittery look on the lips where as the glossier shades are more pigmented with a slight shimmer and neither have a grainy texture as expected in a shimmery or glittery lipgloss. These could look nice over lipstick to add a bit of shimmer to an otherwise plain colour. The applicator is a flexible flattened oval shape which applies nicely. The longivity of all the essence glosses arent long as expected as they do not dry but stay glossy on the lips but they are nice to add a quick swipe of colour on the go or to keep in your handbag. Lipglosses aren't formulated to stay on the lips for long periods of time.
• Essence XXXL Nude Lipglosses - R44.95
|
XXL Nude Lipgloss in "06 Soft Almond" |
There are 4 shades in this collection of glosses and are all pretty sheer with a slight tint in each. They are nice to add a glossy shine to the lips and to use to add a slight colour to an otherwise neutral look or to wear over lipsticks. The applicator is the same as the Shine and Matt Lipglosses. They are also nice to throw in your handbag for a quick application on the go.
• Essence Lipliners - R19.95
|
Lipliners in "11 In The Nude" |
Even though these liners are wooden and need to be sharpened they are extremely creamy and long wearing. They don't smudge and are matte and help keep your lipstick in longer. They are also extremely inexpensive and are very good quality. These are basically on par with many higher-end brands and are a great find at the drugstore.
• Essence Eyebrow Designer - R29.95
|
Eyebrow Designer in "02 Brown" |
This eyebrow pencil is so inexpensive and yes I keep saying Essence is inexpensive for each product but really you can't get any more pocket friendly than this brand. This eyebrow pencil isn't to creamy but isn't hard to use at all. I use this every day to define and fill in brows easily without smudging.
• Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel - R54.95
|
Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara in "Brownie Brows" |
If you can't afford big brands like Benefit don't be afraid to pop past Essence. Their brow products are very very good. This applicator is so minute it keeps the application even and precise. If you like fibre and pigment rich brow gel mascara this is a great dupe for the Benefit Give Me Brow Gel Mascara so definitely give it a try.
• Essence Longlasting Eye Pencil - R29.95
|
Longlasting Eye Pencil in "01 Black Fever" |
They don't smudge or move during the day and are highly pigmented. What more do you need for an eye pencil.
• Essence Waterproof Eyeliner Pen - R59.95
|
Waterproof Eyeliner Pen |
If you need a winged eyeliner quickly this eyeliner is perfect for you. It is easy to handle, doesn't smudge and has a fine tipped edge to help with accuracy. It is also waterproof so you don't have to worry about it moving throughout the day.
• Essence My Must Have Individual Eyeshadows - R34.95
|
Essence My Must Haves 8 pan palette |
|
Essence My Must Haves Individual Eyeshadow in 07 Mauvie-Time! |
Essence's individual must have's are so creamy and pigmented. Who said you need expensive makeup to have your makeup on fleek? These eyeshadows are amazing quality for such a low price, definitely try these out if you haven't. These shadows come individually and then you can buy either an 8 (R44.95) palette or 4 palette (R34.95) to put them in.
• Essence Multi-Action Volume Mascara - R54.95
|
Multi-Action Volume Mascara |
This mascara is very good for creating long spidery lashes and is also good at separating your lashes. I wouldn't agree with the volumizing claim but if you love spidery lashes that lasts and doesn't smudge go for this mascara. I use this every day and it really does help to complete a look.
• Essence All About Matt High Coverage Concealer - R54.95
|
Essence Camouflage Full Coverage Concealer in 05 Ivory |
This is one of my top drugstore concealers. This concealer is as good a quality as you can get for its price. It has a liquid-like consistency so is nice for under the eyes and doesn't crease once it has been set with a setting powder. It can be used to cover dark under eye circles and blemishes. It is a high coverage concealer and I really do highly recommend it if you can get your hands on it.
• Essence Camouflage Cream Concealer - R54.95
|
Camouflage Cream Concealer in "10 Natural Beige" |
I wouldn't recommend this concealer for under the eyes but it is very good for covering blemishes, highlighting around the mouth and eyebrows and as an eyeshadow base. I use it all the time to shape my eyebrows.
• Essence Silky Touch Blushes - R54.95
|
Silky Touch Blush in "100 Indian Summer" |
Personally I love these blushes, they are very natural but still very pigmented so you don't need to much to complete your look. They can also be used with a lot of different eye looks so thus are quite versatile. Definitely a must.
• Essence Sun Club Matt Bronzing Powder - R79.95
|
Sun Club Matt Bronzing Powder for "darker skin" |
This bronzer comes in a very large road compact that definitely gives good amount of product for money. The size of it makes up for the R80 that you just spent on it because it will definitely last ages. It is nicely blendable and if used correctly can give a very natural sunkissed look to finish off a makeup look. I have to say it's worth the money. I actually gave mine away with the only reason being that I can't stand the smell of coconut. If you are like me I would'nt recomend it but if you like coconut then definitely get this.
• Essence Makeup Brushes
|
From left
Powder brush, Eyeshadow Brush, Eyeshadow Sponge, Eye Blender Brush and Blush Brush |
These brushes are so soft and so good at blending colour I can't get enough of them. And the designs on them are so cute.
